WHAT WE DO

A Residential Care Facility is authorized to provide the following services:

Room and board;

One would naturally assume that room and board includes room and meals but there is more to it than that.  Meals are prepared to be both tasty and nutritious.  Everyone gets three prepared meals each day.  Also, meals are served in a dining room, just like home.  In addition, sometimes people need special meals due to some health related condition and that is available.  Also, snacks (specialty snacks are not included) are provided by the facility as part of the room and board feature as well.

All necessary furniture and linens are included as well as the laundering of those items.  As stated earlier, one may bring their own personal items, if they desire, as space permits.

Assistance with medications;

Sometimes people have a hard time reading, understanding or accessing their medications.  At Graham’s, there is always someone to help.  Medications are kept locked until time for them.  Staff can assist as necessary with those medications.  There is no nurse on duty so medications must be self administered.

Assistance with reordering medications is also available.  This will make sure that something is not forgotten and medications are always there when needed.

Supervision; and

What is meant by “supervision” is assisting persons with the events in their life like keeping up with and going to doctor’s appointments, social outings or even their checking account depending on a person’s needs.  It may require helping someone remember their appointment, arranging transportation and assisting them to get ready to go.

Assistance with activities of daily living

Activities of daily living cover such things as laundry and assistance with shopping but also for such services as helping someone bathe, wash their hair, shave or dress.  (Only certified persons are allowed to assist with such things at Grahams.  Everyone that works here also has to pass a criminal record check that includes a FBI fingerprint check.  You can also rest assured that no one with a communicable sickness is allowed to assist someone.  Everyone that works here must also pass a tuberculosis test.)

WHO WE SERVE

The people we provide services to have different types of needs.  This could be a disabled person.  Our home is wheelchair accessible.  Front and rear exits have ramps.  We have pull bars and handicapped toilets to help safely transfer to and from bath and toilet.  If necessary, a staff person will also assist them.

It could be a senior citizen who no longer desires to live alone.  Sometimes it is good to have another person around to help us when we have trouble.  Also, it is very nice to have someone else prepare meals and wash dishes, especially if those meals require special preparation.

Many people have a hard time keeping medicines on time or in the right dose.  This can be dangerous and expensive.  Running out of medications can also be dangerous.  Some may be needing a special diet; some maybe recovering from an illness, accident, or surgery; or it could be someone in need of constant personal care that would look to us for help.

A person who lives with us must be 65 years of age or older.  State regulations place some restrictions on who can live in this type of setting.  A person must not be in need of full-time nursing care and be independently mobile (able to vacate the building in three minutes or less).  The person can use whatever means of conveyance they have been using such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair.  A person must be able to self-administer their own medications.  One who lives here has to be capable of understanding and responding to reminders and guidance from staff.  A person cannot be not totally incontinent of bowel and bladder and remain at this level of care.  A person who lives here cannot need nursing care at a level greater than can be provided by a Home Health Agency.  Also, no one who has a communicable disease that poses a direct threat to the health or safety of other residents or staff can live here.

Persons that the State would not allow to reside at Graham’s include those that:

           Does not need nursing services which exceed those that can be provided by a certified home health agency on a temporary or infrequent basis;

Does not have a level of mental illness, mental disorder, mental retardation, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or addiction to alcohol/drugs that requires a higher level of medical, nursing, psychiatric care or active treatment than can be safely and effectively provided in the residential care facility setting;

Does not require religious, cultural, or dietary regimens that cannot be met by the facility without undue burden; and

Does not require physical restraints, lock up, confinement, or have current violent behavior, nor is the resident being admitted against his/her will by court order, or being released from a correctional facility.

CHARGES

The following services are included in the basic monthly charge.  Of course the room would be included.  Utilities and linens are included as well (you can bring your own linens if you wish).  Differences in price for rooms would differ as to the size and whether the room was private or semi-private.  Three daily meals and facility-provided between-meal snacks are included.  If a person requires a special diet there may be a price adjustment to cover those costs.  If a person is very particular about their snack food they should probably get their own.  Basic staff supervision, guidance, and direction 24 hours a day is included.  In the event that a person needs a significant amount of care there would be adjustment to the cost to cover the time required for care.  Housekeeping services for common areas and laundry services for facility linens are also included.  Facility supplies (soap, toilet tissue, etc.) are included.  If a person is brand conscious they will need to buy their own.  Recreational activities are also included.  Persons are encouraged to continue their own pass-times if they can and space is provided for those.  Financial management of resident funds is available at no additional cost if needed or desired.  Facility handling of resident funds is regulated by the state.

As already stated, Graham’s was licensed by the state when this industry became regulated.  The Department of Human Services, Department of Provider Services and Quality Assurance is the agency responsible for survey and licensure.  The surprise state inspections are conducted at their discretion.  Graham’s has a very good inspection record going for more than two years without a deficiency written against this home.  The past two year’s inspection records are posted on the wall for anyone to see.

Our motto is “WE CARE AND WE SHOW IT.”  Everyday, we try to live up to this rule.  If you or someone you know is in need of our kind of care, please contact us.
